We wanted the new winery to have a strong relationship with the natural landscape. A holistic, eco approach in the design and implementation was required throughout the whole building process.

For us, it was important to create a contemporary winery, using innovative design and renewable materials. Adding energy efficient technology, including solar panels on the roof to help lower the carbon footprint of the building.

We sourced durable European oak that is responsibly grown but that also carries many natural benefits, including natural preservatives which protect against rot.

Happy May Day from Palazzo Tronconi Vineyard, Arce, Italy

Festa dei Lavoratori

With noble roots the first Labor Day celebration in Italy was in 1800's, it was to recognise workers achievements in fighting for their rights. Traditionally on the 1st May, farmers and workers took the day off to eat, drink, socialise and dance.

Today not much has changed and here at Palazzo Tronconi, it's of no surprise there's going to be fine wine, good food and great company. A good excuse, to celebrate a long weekend with friends, families and our guests of course!

Art, Painting and Culture at Palazzo Tronconi, Italy

Michaelangelo and Sebastiano del Piombo at the National Gallery, London

Before you visit us this summer take a trip to this groundbreaking exhibition. The exhibition focuses on the extraordinary relationship between the two great Italian masters in Renaissance Rome that sparked a 25 year friendship and partnership. During this period they each produced outstanding works that neither could have  created without each other.

Featuring the loan of Michelangelo"s 'The Risen Christ' from the Church of San Vincenzo Martire in Bassano Romano, Italy.

Enjoy our art history!

Palazzo Tronconi's First Biodynamic Sparkling Wine

'Ancestrale'

It seemed fitting that we should name our first sparkling wine 'Ancestrale' after the oldest natural method of sparkling wine production.

Sparkling wine was first produced using this ancient method almost 400 years ago by monks in the monastery of Sainte Hilaire in France.

It is a technique that is very difficult to control and requires great skill to produce but at Palazzo Tronconi we are hoping for a very unique, natural aromatic wine.

17904096_1331700536925545_3075217380123824222_n.jpg

For the base wine we chose our unknown grape variety 'pampanaro', the hand picked grapes were harvested earlier than normal to preserve acidity. Part of the must was taken and refrigerated for six months. The remainder was left to complete the wine making process.

In March we blended the two together here at our winery in Arce,  we bottled on the same day allowing the fermentation process to commence, trapping the CO2 in the bottle.

Unlike other wine and champagne making methods, no sulphites, yeasts and sugars are added to the secondary fermentation. Using the ancestral method fermentation occurs in the bottle using up much of the remaining natural sugar and yeasts to produce a fresh, dryish and delicious biodynamic sparkling wine.

We are hoping Ancestrale will be available in October to toast our 2017 harvest. In the meantime we have to allow nature to take it's course.

A Course in Wine Tasting and The Biodynamic Approach to Wine

Palazzo Tronconi Tasting Rooms, Arce Italy

Time flies when we're talking wine!

Already we have now reached lesson three of our six part course. The aim of the course is to offer an awareness concerning agricultural dependance of the chemical industry. Wine is the only food/drink product not required by law to disclose ingredients on the label. Do you know whats in your wine? We hope that after the course the participants will gain an in-depth understanding and make an informed decision when buying wine.

In lesson 1 we discussed the differences between conventional, organic and biodynamic wine. Antroposofy the system that was established in the 1920's by philosopher, Rudolf Steiner.

Lesson 2 was all about wine defects hydrogen sulphide- the source of sulphur odours. The vine and the use of chemicals in biodynamic preparations, horn manure, production, storage and sprinkling.
